Physical description: measurements for all documents are provided in centimeters. For manuscripts, only the height of the document is provided (if the height is less than the width, then the width of the document is also provided). For architectural and mechanical drawings, height and width are provided. (A drawing 22 x 29 cm. is 22 cm. high and 29 cm. wide.)

Notes: the following terms have been used in the Notes field for documents other than architectural and mechanical drawings: manuscript, holograph, signed, copy. A manuscript is a document that is handwritten. A holograph is a document that is in the hand of its author. A signed document is a document that is signed by its author. For example, some Parris letters are in Parris’s hand (holograph) while others are in the hand of Parris’s clerk (manuscript). Parris may sign the document that was created by him or a clerk (sometimes a clerk may sign the name of the document’s author, particularly when the item is a copy). If it could not be determined with reasonable certainty that a document was in the hand of its creator, the term manuscript was used. Copies of original documents are always manuscripts.
